boy at computerTony Woodlief writes in today’s Wall Street Journal about Harvard professor Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences (aka MI theory) and asks what it takes to raise successful children:

He warned that we should not try to make our children good at what we were good at, or good at what we did poorly. Our job is to help them become who they are supposed to be, not who we wanted to be.

Lilian and I had the same reaction: “Huh? How are we to know who they’re supposed to be?!”

I say get them good at everything then they can choose whatever they want to do.

Yeah, riiiight.
