Too Young For School

And what did I say???
LONDON (Reuters Life!) - Starting school at the age of four is “stressful” to children and does not help their education, according to a major review of English primary schools which also concluded kids take too many tests too early.
The Cambridge University review noted that some English children start at primary school two years earlier than in other countries.
…some students born in summer months seem to perform worse in their first years.
Stephen is among the youngest in his class having been born in August. If he were born in September, he would be the oldest in his class. He should grateful that I am providing performance enhancing education at home. /cue evil laughter

I have three kids - one born in July, one in September (made the cut-off for her grade by 4 days so she is the youngest) and one born in December. All three kids are doing well in school and their birth month doesn’t seem to have affected much.
I think the “schooling” they get at home combined with their own genetic makeup is the most important.
Hi Char! In our case, Stephen’s not having any trouble academically but socially, it’s been more of a challenge. That one year difference between him and the oldest kids makes a huge difference in terms of impulse and anger control. On the other hand, maybe he just takes after me. hAHAHa
Hi Hsien, we have the opposite issue!! In the SIngapore school system, my son, born on 3 January, is the oldest (the cutoff is 1 Jan). Unfortunately for him, he was always quick at everything, so he’d complain about having no-one to talk to, how young these kids are etc etc. Even booting him up the bus was nearly impossible everyday! After 4 school changes (one was a Montessori but was only slightly better), I threw in the towel and we’re, gulp, homeschooling nowl!
You’re a brave one, Alcovelet. I have barely enough patience to do our hour of “work” each evening. I find myself starting at shouting level!
