Prison With Wings

I can’t even imagine what a nightmare it would be to be stuck on a plane for six hours on the ground with Stephen. Someone should be fired (or worse!) for keeping paying passengers locked up against their will in a prison with wings.

What a nightmare! Remind me to never board a plane in the US without bringing food.
And a good book!
It’s torture. We were recently stuck on a US tarmac for 2+hours going nowhere (our flight was delayed, then cancelled but there was no gate available to let us off!) After another 2 hours of waiting in line, we were rushed/escorted to make it on board another airline, only to sit on the tarmac again for 2+ hours b/f taking off. We were traveling with another couple - we had a 5 month old, they had a 16 month old. And yes, DEFINITELY take water and food!!
What are the rules about bringing water on board these days? Did you hear about this mother who’s an FBI special agent and got harassed for trying to bring water on board for her toddler?
You can bring water as long as it is bought AFTER the security. When we went through customs coming back and had to go through security again, we were again not supposed to have water but the security guy gave us an exception for the baby. He took away our diet coke though…
NO! Not the diet Coke!!!
I can still picture you ordering a diet Coke and asking for a twist of lime or lemon while doing the squeezing motion with your fingers. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a meal together!!
Holy crap! The scary thing is that these stories are getting more and more common. There was the plane a couple of years ago that wouldn’t let the passengers off for 24 hours because it was an international flight and they were forced by weater to land in an airport without immigration services. Those people had no food AND the toilets were full.
My big fear is to be trapped on one of these flights with Erik, who a) smokes so he gets grouchy and b) doesn’t fit comfortably in any seat on an airplane. I don’t think he would stand for being told he couldn’t leave.
I wonder when people will admit that some things, like transportation, need to be government sponsored so that they don’t cut back service in an effort to make money! Yeesh.
I mentioned this incident to a mom at school and she had a similar story to tell!! So you’re right that it’s getting more and more common. Now I’ll be really nervous on my next flight until we’re in the air and even then…. (Luckily, we usually fly Singapore Airlines which would never do this to anybody. Whew!)
I had a similar, thought not nearly as bad experience when my 2nd son was little. 6 hours of waiting in the airport, in the plane at the gate, on the tarmac, back at the gate, then on the tarmac again with a not quite 2 year old kid that wanted nothing more than to get up and move around, but was forced to sit with his seatbelt on because we were technically ‘under take off’ while on the tarmac, even though the pilot admitted no planes were moving!
It’s enough to keep me at home! My worst flight experience was when I was on one of those small tiny commuter planes and it had to fly at such a low altitude that it was boiling hot inside. Fortunately, the flight was only an hour long but I thought I was going to start panicking. And I was on my own! I hope I’m never in such a situation with Stephen.
