Crazy Monkey Times

What a week! My head’s been spinning with what if’s and what should’s and what the @#!
At Genetics and Health, I worked myself into a lather when EurekAlert! refused to grant me access to embargoed press releases because professional bloggers aren’t accorded the same respect as freelance writers and journalists. The issue will be moot when b5media gets media accreditation and issues press credentials to our writers. But I’m still disappointed that those of us creating original content incorporating the latest news and research on science and health aren’t being treated seriously.
At A Hearty Life, I took offense at a review that characterized me as a pill pushing dealer. It was clear to me and my readers that this guy hadn’t taken more than a passing glance at all that I’ve written over the past year. Sure, I think modern medicine is great but I also know that a healthy lifestyle matters just as much.
Then on Thursday and Friday, Stephen was home sick with a fever AGAIN for the second time in four weeks. Makes me wonder how I’d handle a “real” job in an office considering I have no back-up at home whatsoever given Marv’s insane work schedule and the fact that we’re thousands of miles away from family. Freelance projects are my only hope.
Speaking of work, I crammed my six-page academic CV into a one page resume featuring my writing and editing skills. Not sure what the point is but it was a good exercise in reviewing the past few years I’ve spent trying to carve out a new career path for myself. If only I could be as talented as the PG Tips monkey.
If Marv can’t find me the free mini Monkey at the supermarket today, I’m going steal Chris Garrett’s. (You can see Monkey peering out on Chris’s twitter page.) I’d consider buying one but they’re sold out! Waaah.

[...] Still some tension around here but the situation is gradually improving. Marv managed to snag me a monkey, we’re going back to the San Francisco Bay Area next month to visit family and friends*, and Stephen seems to be feeling better. Cross your fingers that I’ll be able to pack him off to school tomorrow! Mrs. P and Mrs. F are my saviors. [...]
