Long E Not Short
Posted by Cottontimer on 11 Jan 2007 | Tagged as: London, What the @#!
I’ve been living in London for almost a year and only today when taking a cab for the first time did I realize that I’ve been mispronouncing the street leading up to ours. Brilliant.
They say they speak English but it ain’t the English that I know.
Update: @#! I still can’t wrap my mind around the pronunciation and even got it wrong in the title of this post. A mom at school who’s lived in these parts for more than a decade confirmed that I was right after all. GAH.

You’re talking about the 3-syllable street name near your house right? I pronounce it with the long e too.
Had to google what short & long e were first (I’m not a big fan of phonics).
Maybe the cab driver was wrong?
As long as people can understand you, it doesn’t really matter. It’s ok being American, nobody’s perfect
(just kidding!!)
Lilian: Yup. That’s the one. And I think there’s a greater probability of me being wrong than the cab driver although usually I don’t think I’m ever wrong. hahaha
Am?lie: hehee I try to keep a low profile. Honest! Although the butcher guy near Lilian’s place wouldn’t shut-up about me being American.
