Bad Parking Hell

Bad drivers and bad parking exist everywhere but I swear it’s worse in London. Two weekends in a row we have been the victims of bad bad parking. When parking is such a scarcity, it’s amazing how thoughtless some people can be; they just don’t give a damn about other people.
This car was parked so close to ours on the left that we couldn’t get out of the car. We eventually had to find another space. Click on the pic for a larger image so you can admire all the “bird poop” I spray painted on it. (Yes, I am juvenile.)
This woman was still in the car when we were trying to park. When I got out and gestured at the line telling her she was parked way over it, she stared at me, got out of her car and simply walked off.

I keep a note pad and a pen in my handbag for just this reason. Once I lost my temper in a crowded parking garage and stuck gum under the driver’s side door handle of an SUV. They’d taken up 2 spaces!
I guess ‘parking idiots’ are equally distributed all over the world. There is a blog in Singapore that blog about nothing but parking idiots.

Laurina: I think you’re right! Maybe because we have so much space that no one feels the need to encroach on another? *sniff* I miss the Bay Area.
Local Girl: Well, we were actually trying to park into that space but eventually had to give up because we couldn’t get out of the car let alone back in. And, I was afraid of getting dings too so I managed to convince my husband to go find another space although parking’s so difficult that we were thinking of just giving up. @#!
Maybe it’s partly because parking spaces are smaller than in other places, particularly North America (on the other hand cars are smaller too…)
I got gum on my key lock once, but I wasn’t parked badly. I’ve also had eggs thrown on my windshield, some kind of milkshake (or possibly melted ice cream) and earth mix thrown onto the side of the car, tiny little plastic balls thrown through an open window, some abuse shouted, some showing-the-finger, the occasional finger-pointing, and A LOT of staring daily. I love driving a left-hand-drive car
Amélie: Whoa!!! You seem to be taking all those abuses with such great humor. We’ve had a couple of sorta serious traffic altercations but nothing so direct. Maybe I’ll get used to it?! This place is rough!!
