Purple AURORA BALL Barbell Tongue RingWhen I was in eighth grade, I finally got my ears pierced. Within a couple of years, I almost wished I never did because I was extremely allergic to almost all earrings and haven’t been able to wear earrings since developing an epidermal cyst in 1999. Needless to say, I’ve NEVER considered getting my tongue pierced and here are more reasons against it.

  • Extreme facial pain from trigeminal neuralgia also called “suicide disease”
  • Tetanus
  • Heart infections
  • Brain abscess
  • Chipped teeth
  • Receeding gums
  • Scar tissue so horrendous that it seems like a “second tongue”

One young woman’s piercing irritated a nerve under her tongue that’s connected to the trigeminal nerve and caused excruciating pain. The pain ended only after she removed the tongue ring. She says:

Don’t do that. My experience was so bad. I was so sick, and now I feel much better.

Call that the understatement of the year.
