Mystery of the Thames Containers Solved
Posted by Cottontimer on 23 Oct 2006 | Tagged as: London
My curiosity got the better of me last week when I was trying to figure what those huge silver cone-topped containers were being towed down the River Thames. So I sent an email to Bennett’s Tugs & Barges. They were kind enough to refer me to the BrentfordTW8.com community forum where I wasn’t the only one who was dying to know what was up!
Jim Lawes investigated and found that they’re beer tanks from a Guinness Brewery that was being demolished. About 10 to 12 of them have been sold to Angola.
With email, it’s easier than ever to find the answers you’re looking for. The next time I have a question or concern, I won’t hesitate to ask!

How funny! So, you were right all along. REALLY big kegs!
So — I wonder what Angola is planning to do with the tanks?
Can you imagine how much beer that thing must hold?
Kerri: I wonder how I knew that they were kegs? I really don’t drink that much beer!
river2sea72: Kegger!
On a more serious note, perhaps they can brew some specialty African beers.
Kailani: I don’t know the capacity but they’re apparently 17-18 tons. Needed cranes to load and unload them from the barge.
