Or, to borrow a Krissy-esque tagline, an effective parenting moment.

Stephen and I have been working on reading simple three to four letter words. While spelling and sounding out “dog,” I pointed to D and Stephen said:

D. D for DNA.

I’d say I’ve been doing a pretty good job of stuffing my little scientist’s brain.

In other news, Stephen got a cut yesterday at school. It was a tiny one next to the nail bed of the left middle finger which bled a little so his teacher wanted to put a bandaid on it. Stephen HATES bandaids (plasters). He actually asked the teacher to call me to come take care of it but she’s a pro and managed to convince him that he needed the plaster.

When we got home, I got out one of his cartoon human physiology books–See Inside Your Body–and explained all about why he bleeds when he gets a cut and how the body heals itself using platelets, red blood cells, and new skin cells. He couldn’t wait to get to school today to share his new understanding of boo-boo’s and how his body takes care of itself with the help of plasters.

These moments make make feel like an effective parent. :)

And while I’ve got you here, check out this header I made for Laura at Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It’s the first I’ve ever created and I even managed to do it in Photoshop. Quite a stretch for me since I’m much more text-oriented.
