The Power of Nice
Posted by Cottontimer on 20 Aug 2006 | Tagged as: Career
Nice is probably not the first adjective that comes to mind when people think of me. I care about people and their well being through empowering them to achieve success on their own terms. The way I go about doing that, however, is not always very gentle or soft.
Linda Kaplan Thaler, founder of the fastest growing ad agency in America the Kaplan Thaler Group, has these tips for how to be nice and successful.
- Thank the Delivery Guy
- Bake a Bigger Pie
- Give It Away
- Sweeten the Deal
- Help Your Enemies
- Prod with a Nod
- Tell the Truth
- Don’t Be So Smart
- Shut Up
- Put Yourself in Their Place
Unfortunately, her detailed article in Oprah Magazine isn’t online but this Newsweek article gives a succinct summary. And next month, her book–The Power of Nice: How to Conquer the Business World With Kindness–will be available.
This hardass is looking forward to it.

You are, without a doubt, the nicest hardass I know.
Well, aside from my hubby.
this looks interesting. update us if u find it useful. I may consider picking it up when I see it. Don’t have much time to read recently tho. As I mentioned on my blog, I’m starting a library, and it’s of books that aren’t mine! People loan me, I put on table, and the pile grows and grows….;p
Christina: Thank you…I think.
bam: LOL I hate it when people lend me books because of the pressure to read them esp. when they force them on me. Now I just tell them that I like to write and otherwise deface my books so it’s better if I get my own copy.
[...] A couple months ago, I mentioned the book, The Power of Nice: How to Conquer the Business World With Kindness by Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval. I haven’t gotten the book yet but I was pleased to find the Nice Blog with Cotton-Pickin’ Days on the blogroll called “Other Nice Links”! [...]
