Souvenirs from London
Posted by Cottontimer on 01 Aug 2006 | Tagged as: London, Shopping
Trying to find souvenirs from London to take back to California is like trying to find a toy Stephen doesn’t already have. Most anything we come across on a daily basis in the UK–books, toys, clothing, food–can be found easily in the U.S. for half the price. Truly special English goods are way beyond our budget.
I can’t possibly get people any of the following:
- Bespoke shirts from Saville Row
- Beauty products made from dew resting on the plants found in the garden of the Queen’s summer cottage (ok I made this up only because I’m keeping a surprise gift secret)
- Conway Stewart pens (although The Harlequin is mighty fine at $21,000)
- Swaine Adeney Brigg umbrellas
- Launer handbags
- Guardsmen Skittles (pictured above) are adorable but are they worth $60?
Apologies in advance to family and friends for not bring you any luxury British goods. How about I treat you to a Polish sausage or Very Berry Sundae from Costco instead when we get in town?

What about chocolate hobknobs?
I don’t even know what that is?! Have I been missing out? I may have to take a little trip to my neighborhood convenience store tomorrow.
They’re chocolate coated oat biscuits. It looks like you can order them online. They’re really yummy.
What about tea or tea implements? I always like getting simple things that are particular to a different culture, if that makes sense. I used to bring back belgian chocolates and dutch cheese when I went to the Netherlands.
Shhhhhh. What do you think I’m bringing? Super boring but oh so English.
Oops, I didn’t mean to give away your secret!
Sticky Toffee Sponge Pudding in a can! (or Treacle Sponge Pudding)
PG Tips are usually hard to find abroad.
Ready Brek, Jaffa Cakes, Buttercrunch biscuits?
Am?lie: Why didn’t I ask you guys before I went hunting?? Oh well, I’ll remember these things next time. Today is all about housework and packing. No chance to go shopping.
Thank you for the great list!!! (BTW, Stephen loves Jaffa Cakes but I think they’re grooooosssss. hehe)
Was the Spurs gift shop closed?
Bald Man: Sadly, I don’t think any of our family and friends gives a whit about the Spurs!
