Nightmare of Losing Teeth
Posted by Cottontimer on 20 Jul 2006 | Tagged as: Knick Knacks, Me
Along with driving a car with failing brakes, having my teeth fall out is another recurrent nightmare. Kerri was saying the same so I thought I’d find out exactly what it all means.
I was once told that dreams of losing teeth meant someone close had a serious illness or had died. For a while, I’d call my parents and my sister to check up on them whenever I had a dream like that but then it started getting so silly that I started wondering if I wouldn’t be better off calling the dentist instead (I really should get my teeth cleaned more often).
According to Dream Moods,
In the Greek culture, when you dream about loose, rotten, or missing teeth, it indicates that a family member or close friend is very sick or even near death.
But I think this interpretation may be closer to the mark:
Teeth are used to bite, tear, chew and gnaw. In this regard, teeth represent power. And the loss of teeth in your dream may be from a sense of powerlessness. Are you lacking power in some current situation? Perhaps you are having difficulties expressing yourself or getting your point across. You feel frustrated when your voice is not being heard.
Sounds exactly like what I’m going through mothering a preschooler.

I didn’t know my picture was going to be up there with the link!
I definitely could believe the loss of power interpretation. I’m trying to remember if I had it after the birth of each child…
Yup… I’ve had those dreams… I agree it’s about power. It was while I was working and felt like people were just feeding me to the sharks.
I have this dream all the time. Dinner with Johnny Knoxville and Ronald Reagan and splash — teeth in my soup!
I’ve always heard this dream represents worry over money.
I’ve never had a dream like that. Maybe that’s a good thing!
I dreamed last night that some very good friends of mine avoided contact with me intentionally (by walking in a different direction). I wonder what THAT means… ?
I’ve had my teeth crumble, shatter, drop out, fizzle, disappear, get knocked out, swallowed… I agree that it’s about being in control of your life. I haven’t had a teeth dream in a while, but I used to get them a lot. Make what you will of it!
I’d heard it was a fear of ageing…?
I’ve also heard that it can be, very simply, an insecutrity about your looks. I’d think that moving to a new towm, a while new culture, could trigger some insecurity about how you measure up. But, in the end if that description of power and loss of control really rings true for you, it’s probably that!
Hmmm, had a dream about eating my teeth once … yep. Right up there with licking my elbow.
definitely a recurring theme in my dreams. sometimes, my teeth actually crumble! ugh!
Kerri: Awww. Aren’t you cute?
kimmellee: Yikes! Hope you don’t feel the presence of those sharks anymore. CHOMP.
gracefruit: Splash! What imagery. lol I hope you didn’t get President Reagan covered with tomato soup. As for money…Me? Worry? Hhahehehe
river2sea72: Really? Maybe you’ll have a tooth loss dream this week…. Not that I’m wishing it on you!
Let me interpret your dream for you…you’re worried about losing touch with your friends once you start your “new” life this Fall?
Rosie: Dang! And I thought it was terrifying enough just to have them fall out. Fizzling could be really bizarre.
Lisa: Oh, yes. The Dream Moods people said something about aging and losing teeth. I think mine might be about grey hair. I have an unreasonable fear of turning grey! (I think it’s the thought of spending lots of money on hair color.)
Joan: It could be everything you mentioned. I’m just a mess, aren’t I?
mdmhvonpa: You’re so talented! Why hasn’t any circus recruited you yet?
mipmup: Crumble? UGH UGH UGH.
IMHO, i think its related with aging, check: dreams about teeth
