Bras Rule
Posted by Cottontimer on 19 Jul 2006 | Tagged as: Me
Some people might be burning bras, but I’m letting them rule my wardrobe choices. I have:
- 2 white bras
- 1 cream bra
- 1 light prink bra
- 1 beige bra
- 1 light blue bra
- 2 black bras
When they’re all freshly laundered, I can wear whatever I like. But when it gets down to the last one, then the color determines what I can safely wear for the day.
For example, the last two clean bras I had left this week were both black so I couldn’t wear any light colored tops which really cramped my style. And I’m not one of those women who like to wear black bras under sheer blouses (although Naomi Cleaver looked pretty darn good).
I’ll be ok tomorrow because I’ve just washed all the bras (aside from the one I’ve got on). Hmmm, what should I wear?
What limits your clothing selection for the day?

it gets pretty dire when my laundry isn’t recently washed, because then the tops in the closet don’t necessarily work with the bras in the drawer.. I have to admit there have been a couple occasions where I wore the black bra under a light-colored top, because the alternatives were to stay in my pj’s or go topless. That might work for my spouse, but it doesn’t work for me! lol
Deb: /me shakes head a topless comment
I knew I couldn’t possibly be the only one to experience this mismatch between top and bra!
Maybe it’s an experience common among parents of small children, and if we had no children or bigger children, we’d get our laundry done more often?
I think the obvious solution is to go shopping- it’s apparent that we both need more bras and tops that coordinate! hehehe
Way too much information!!! Warn a guy next time will ya.
Deb: When are you free to go? kekeke Actually, I do heck of a lot more laundry now than I did when I lived alone. Back then it was more like once every couple of weeks now it’s twice a week and about five loads!
Bald Man: Like you don’t have any bras of your own. hahaa
Kerri!!!!
Bald Man: She’s the one that told me!!

I do my laundry as regularly as I post on Autismland (not AutismVox).
I’ve also made a near-total switch to No More Dry Cleaning Items except for sweaters and when I have to do the dress-up thing. I’ve been rotating pants and skirts from Patagonia that can be washed in the sink in a pinch……. (one is drying in the shower now……).
Then there was this NY Times article last week about a trend of bras and clothing (tank tops) morphing into one and the same.

So, you’re trying to get me in trouble here, Hsien?!
I actually have the same mismatching shirt/bra problem. It does help that I finally took all the of the nursing bras out of the drawer (since I’ve been done nursing for about 8 months). Easier to justify the need for new bras when the drawer doesn’t look quite so full! Though did try to go bra shopping a couple of weeks ago. 20 try ons, no purchases, an hour of my life lost. grrr.
Hmm. I’ve worn a black bra under a light colored top, but it didn’t show through…
PORN!!!!!
Nekkid lady alert!!!
Kristina: Patagonia has some really nice stuff!! My sis had some quick dry undies for her trip to Italy. Pricey!
Kerri: I got my microfiber underwire bras with light padding from Costco and love them. Didn’t even try them on and they fit perfectly!! No more nursing bras for me either. Ewwww. They got real grungy after a while.
Lynn: Sure?
In any case, I’m sure you looked smashing with a bit of bras peeking through.
mdmhvonpa: I am sooo surprised my spam catcher didn’t nab you. Now you’re going to get me some nasty search engine traffic. /me kicks mdmhvonpa
What an interesting topic Hsien! Look what you’ve started. Hehehe …
I was wondering where this “obsession” of matching bra/top come from? I didn’t have it when I was younger. At least, I don’t remember.
Anyhow, I think aside from the colors, it also depends on the style. Strapless, t-shirt bras, cross over back, lace, push-up … it’s endless.
Can I wear the cross-over one with this top?
- Maybe not, it’s gonna do a peek-a-boo!
- Or maybe that’s the look I want! Hmmmm ..
Gosh, too many choices!
And men say we ladies take too long to dress-up. If only they knew *wink*.
Kharen: Not obsessed, just being practical. And I have no worries about the structure of the bra because I never wear anything without sleeves. I don’t let anybody peek-a-boo.
Good thinking!
It irks me when IT tags your skin, worries you that it might show, straps falling down, etc. Maybe youre right. I should probably stick to beige colored ones with standard straps. Surely, that would go with most tops.
