mdmhvonpa: Me? You're asking me? Fool for sure. :D But, yes, I agree that some degree of caution is good for self-preservation. Arrogant a-holes will eventually meet a violent end (I hope).

river2sea72: Damn right! I also think it depends on who you hang out with. Some people are just determined to one-up everyone whether they're able to or not. I never hang around people like that.

Lisa: Isn't life fun? ;)

I used to suffer from this until I realized that the vast majority of people have a hugely inflated self-image and they project it loudly. Then there are those who are truly brilliant and who will always shine brighter than me and I have (for the most part) learned to live with that fact. The only thing that still bothers me are 1) people who "fall into" situations that I envy and 2) people who seem to have made better choices in their lives/careers leading them to situations that I envy. But, I have no doubt that given the right opportunity and being able to take that opportunity, I can do anything I put my mind to whatsoever.

You know, this 'Imposter Syndrome' sounds more like a lack of self confidence or a poor self image. I actually heard of this back in the early 90's when a co-worker was speaking to me of another co-worker who was difficult to deal with. It was attributed to his fear of being 'discovered' even though he was the only one who knew anything about the subject. Frankly, as an arm-chair psychologist, I would thing that anyone without some self-doubt would come to a quick end as they would fail to understand that some activities (flying) are beyond them. Brave or foolhardy, confident or arrogant: what be you?
