Worries of Past and Present
Posted by Cottontimer on 20 May 2006 | Tagged as: Me
Things I used to worry about that no longer bother me:
- Hair on my knuckles - when I was in high school, I used to shave them once in a while especially after seeing a professional hand model on TV do the same.
- A freckle to the right (?) of my nose just next to the nostril - have so many now that a single freckle hardly matters
- Protruding tummy - always tried to suck it in no matter where I was
- Big thighs - never let them rest on the seat, was always on my tiptoes when I sat
- Facial hair
- Toes peeking out in sandals - nothing a little nail polish didn’t cure
- Having a killer career - now I’m just content to be doing what I enjoy
Things I worry about now that never bothered me before:
- Cholesterol and blood pressure
- Wrinkles and general skin concerns
- Grey hair
- Discolored knees - happened after I gave birth
- Parenting well - goes without saying

*raises hand* I’m guilty of the hair/knuckles thing too.
Oopsie. =)
Lynn: Wheee! What’s with the server switch at your blog?
Since I becoming a mother I shave my legs about once a year, and have waxed the light mustache over my lip all of once. That said, when I was childless and rich, I used to go to the day spa three or four times a year for regular maintenance. I must say, I miss those three days a year.
Nowadays, I am much more worried about financial stability. In the old days I spent every cent I made and more on credit!
Haha, I still worry about the hair on my knuckles! I think if one is teaching high school, one is often more ultra-aware of what the students will see. High school students *will* notice if you dress sloppily one fine day, or if you wear more makeup than usual, or if you have your hair up/down for the day @_@ I usually don’t let that bother me… some wrinkles on my skirt? Meh
I used to worry about the small mole I have on the underside of my left arm, but I no longer care if other people see it. I used to do the “be careful of how you sit so that the thigh fat won’t show” thing too lol. And as for “killer career”… I think I’m already giving up after my first year of teaching high school!! Not that teaching’s such as highly-paid, highly-regarded job in the first place… When I move to CA, I’m just going to take it easy and do what’s enjoyable, as opposed to what others expect of me.
Right now I’m worried about how my evaluation by the principal will go, and worried about leaving Canada forever (”forever” is a long time, I know).
Kate: I let Marv worry about the finances. I got enough to worry about including that one very thick hair that sprouts up on the same spot on my upper lip.
echomyst: LOL Isn’t it amazing how we all did similar silly things? I hope your move goes smoothly!! Forever is relative and a long time in which to make things perfect.
Things I used to worry about were mostly so trivial as to be laughable. Now I worry about things like what will happen when we’re hit with a flu pandemic, and will my family be ok, and what can I do that is reasonable to prepare as best as possible for some sort of disaster? And I tend to worry about what my family will do if I die, and what I’d do if it were one of my kids or spouse that died instead of me. AUGH.
my worries… they are light and fluffy.
[...] Carrying a notebook with me wherever I go. Inspiration strikes at the oddest moments. On Saturday, I was at Marks & Spencer with Marv and Stephen when we stopped for a tea break. I must have been worrying over something when I got the idea for this earlier post. [...]
Deb: OK. Now you’ve got me REALLY worried!!!
Really do enjoy your posts and am stealing this idea to share with all the old fogies ‘cross the pond. I think they’ll really enjoy it.
cheers,
lucyd
PS Of course I’ll direct them here to admire your site.
Hey, share the pain, eh
I remind myself, when I get too paranoid, of Agent Smith in The Matrix, when he compares humankind to a virus. Things might get really bad, but not so bad as to wipe out the human race. Terrible plagues and things have happened in the past, but here we all are!
goldenlucyd: I’m so glad you enjoy my drivel.
Looking forward to seeing your list.
Deb: You are not very nice, are you?
Maybe it would be better for everyone to get wiped out. End all our troubles. HA!
Actually, my problem is that I’m too nice, I wasn’t always an out-spoken brat
Dont worry, leave them. Nice blog.
Deb: Another sign that you’re a quick learner.
doll: I’ll try! Thanks for visiting.
