No More Frills
Posted by Cottontimer on 08 Apr 2006 | Tagged as: Me, Shopping
Frills aren’t in fashion anymore. Budget airlines brag about being low cost and no frills. Muji is all about no-frills chic along with Target and Trader Joe’s.
Me? I’m into frills nowadays; the more the better. Especially when it comes to my clothes.
It all started when my mom brought me some feminine pajamas in soft colors and fabric with lace trim, embroidery, and ruffled hems. They awakened my feminine side and unexpectedly made me feel more at peace. For too long, I’ve dressed very plainly with few accessories and embellishments. I do wear a lot of different colors–many very bright–but the cut is always a little too boxy, too unisex, too boring. I’m getting tired of plain t-shirts and shapless sweaters.
From now on, I’m going for a more feminine look with a touch of lace, ruffles, embroidery, or beading. I’m not going to go overboard with it, but I would like to look softer and prettier (as much as is possible). Luckily, I’ve got a favorite clothing store here in London, Kew, where I’m planning to go wild shopping in a couple of weeks.
Getting new clothes is probably a bit of a waste since I spend most of my time at home. But I’ve decided I’m worth it. Bring on the frills!

I think you’re right on track to buy those frills even if you’re working at home. It does something good for the psyche to like what you’re wearing when you’re working no matter if you’re working at home. So go frilly, frilly girl! Enjoy!
I am not a frills girl. Neither am I plain…these days. Sometimes it’s a bit edgy, trendy, and ’stylish’ (or so I would like to think) And I stay away from almost anything that says “too feminine”. Pink also is a colour I don’t touch! I don’t know why…
I didn’t even used to wear skirts!! Forget dresses…those were just in very formal occasions. Only the last two years I have worn skirts. I remember when I did, my mom would look in awe and respond, “oh how nice! You look like a girl!” sigh…
oh meant to add…. I think it’s great that you still wear working clothes even though you are working at home. It does make a difference. I wear maybe not office wear but at least something more formal that shorts and tee when I am studying at home. It gets you in the necessary mood!
Liz: What do you wear when you’re working from home? I’m still in sweats right now. Shame on me.
Smitha: I remember that you don’t like pink! I wear alot of it. hehe Just wear what makes you feel good. I didn’t like girly before either but now I do. Could be a sign of old age. uh oh
hehehe…maybe… I don’t find myself so repulsed now seeing pink on the store racks as I used to be. I hope it will be a few decades before I buy one to wear though!
