Being Edgy

Barry was telling me the other day that he wanted the bloggers at the wurk network to write edgier material. At first, I wasn’t even really sure what he was talking about. Did he want us to be snarky? You know how I feel about that.
Screenwriter John August defines “edgy” as:
A term used to describe a story or writing style that is unusually unsettling, exciting, or dark. Everyone claims to want edgy material, but then they end up making generic comedies.
Hmmm. Sounds like a tricky method.
Regardless, Barry’s comment gave me the kick in the pants I needed. Over the past few months, I’d gotten in a rut of simply regurgitating the news and sharing less of my thoughts and feelings. Now I’m back: thinking, processing, and, hopefully, more provocative than ever.
Have you noticed a difference?

Check this definition…
1. Nervous or irritable: The performers were edgy as they waited for the show to begin.
2. Having a sharp or biting edge: an edgy wit.
3. Daring, provocative, or trend-setting: an exhibition of edgy photographs; an edgy menu.
Number 1 obviously doesn’t apply here. Heh.
But, numbers 2 and 3 are exactly what I meant - especially number 3. Whether it’s easy (or even possible) or not (?), I think we should be trying to dig up some the kind of job and career-related stuff that you can’t read anywhere else.
Thing is, I’m not even sure I know what that stuff is, though!
I have noticed a bit of edginess here. And I like it
Edgy? Ummm, hmmm. I could describe the sharp, pointy edge on my shovel as I drive it through roots while planting spring bubs. Probably not up to par though.
Barry: This is clearly going to be a problem because I think I excel at #1, but not so much at #2 and 3.
river2sea72: I figured you would appreciate it! Thanks.
mdmhvonpa: Somehow I have a feeling you’re speaking metaphorically?!
