Cholon Chinatown, Ho Chi Minh City

We fought our way to Chinatown in District 5 today.
Everything about the wholesalers area is suffocating -
from the crowded streets to the dusty grimy air.

Happy New Year Hsien! Thanks for providing so much help and friendship to make 2005 “the year of the blog” for me.
Hope preparations for the big move are going well. I heard it has been unusually cold in the UK and Europe this winter—a real change from Vietnam indeed—
are the people wearing masks because of the pollution or because they’re concerned about bird flu?
those huge shopping baskets look handy
Your photos made me miss Beijing, in a weird kind of way; totally unexpected because I’ve sworn I never want to go back to mainland China, but now am suddenly remembering the sheer craziness of it all!
Happy New Year!
KChew: I’m so glad I could suck you into the blogosphere further!
Am going to tacke bathroom stuff today. I dun wanna!!
Deb: Bird flu is a non-issue here. The locals don’t care much except to avoid eating chicken…some of the time. Those shopping baskets are definitely fun and handy! Maybe I should bought another (I only have 1 and mother-in-law has 10+.)
Rosie: So I guess it’ll be alright if we ever get posted to China?! I’ll have seen it all in Vietnam already.
Happy New Year to you too!!
Your pictures somehow make me miss visiting Saigon – the air you describe is not so different from what we experience here in Taiwan.
Clark: Thanks for the comment! Kelake is so clever. LOL
My last trip to Taiwan was in Feb 2005. Thank goodness it wasn’t in summer because it would certainly have been worse than Saigon!
