qadira: Filters are totally the way to go. I just made an "action needed" folder too to make sure I respond to everything that needs it.

I love my gmail account because of the filters and labels. I liked my Pegasus mail reader until it quit working properly, and we never could get it to reinstall right. :/ Husband recently made the switch from Eudora to Thunderbird, and is still making peace with it. heh.

If I ever have 2 hours worth of email daily, I hope I have a paid assistant too. or house elves ;)

I definitely spend too much time checking email (and on my Powerbook, in general). I do too always get that frisson on seeing that my inbox has a message--something about being connected means a lot to me.

It's more immediate than "snail letters" certainly; I wouldn't have kept up with all sorts of people without it. Or met many, like yourself, and had an e-chat.

ruth: We socialize quite a bit by e-mail so it's nice to know you'd miss it if we didn't. ;)

Mona: Crapberry - I love it! I may have to buy one from you someday. hehe

Personally, I call that device crapberry. Since it's for work more than keeping up with friends, it'd inevitably spoil a dinner, a show.. essentially no life thereafter.
Most of my clients tells me not to sell that to their bosses *evil grin*

while i start to recognize what a big distraction email is becoming to me, i still look forward to receiving them, especially those that are actually written by real people, not the automatically generated stuff. i also use email to socialize, to chat, and simply keep in touch with friends and family, so a big chunk of my emails are "irrelevant", but... so what? i'd be horrified not to recent such emails!
