Sofitel Vinpearl Resort, Nha Trang, Vietnam

Last Friday, we took our first and last trip out of
Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang, a seaside resort town.
We went via a Vietnam Airlines ATR-72 plane pictured at
Cam Ranh Airport, Nha Trang.

Stephen had a slight fever that day and was pretty much stoned
throughout the journey to Sofitel Vinpearl Resort.

Overall, I’d give the holiday a B. It was our first trip as a family going somewhere purely recreational without the intent of visiting family. Unlike our carefree resort vacation to Bali several years ago, it was not quite so relaxing travelling with a child.
Stephen had a good time for the most part but even the Kids Club, beach, and game room with pool, ping pong and darts couldn’t keep him entertained for long. There were still many moments when Stephen wanted to “go back to Stephen’s house.” Also, because we were on an island resort, we were “trapped” there eating buffet or room service for every meal. Taking the speed boat to the mainland to sample local cuisine would have been too much for Stephen who wasn’t feeling well to begin with and barely ate anything the second day we were there.
Nevertheless, it was fun to do something totally different than our usual routine. We breathed in the fresh ocean air and spent as much time as we could outdoors. I’m looking forward to seeing what wonderful places we can travel to when we move to Europe next month.
NB: Since this was our first genuine holiday as a family, this post is also a contribution to last week’s eMothersOnline Mama Monday: Something New.

Sounds like a relaxing holiday. I’m looking forward to our first family vacation – we are taking a mini break in Malacca during Christmas. (You look great without glasses, by the way.)
mel: It was as relaxing as it could be with a toddler around.
Thanks for the nice compliment. That was the only decent picture of me from the vacation. haha!!
Wow, looks lovely!
Travelling with a child sometimes feels like extra work rather than a vacation, in my opinion. It is nice for someone else to worry about the cooking and cleaning for a little whie, though.
That BED!! wowowowow
Abigail: I must admit that I do very little cooking and cleaning nowadays. Although that will most likely change when we move to London. *sob*
Liz: We weren’t so keen on the sparsely furnished room, but we did like the feather-top bed and marble bathroom.
That is such a pretty picture of you.
gracefruit: Thank you! It’s all camera angle.
U R LOOKING GOOD!
wow! nha trang is beautiful. and you look great too lei! (i just noticed that you can even pass for a filipina!) looks like father and son had a great time too.
off topic: Nha trang is were my brother joined his ship last month that’s dry docked in a pier there somewhere.
Anny: I look better in this picture than in real life, don’t I?
Gloria: I have been mistaken for almost every Asian ethnicity – Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and now Filipino! Pretty easy to blend in and stay out of trouble.
Is your brother still in Vietnam? He must be getting his fill of seafood.
should be u look EVEN better in this picture!

Nice room and nice beach! Sorry Stephen wasn’t feeling well… we’ve had trips like that too. Once, I took Sadie to Sea World and she was so sick she just sat in her stroller the WHOLE time (which she NEVER does normally).
Enjoy your last days in Vietnam!
Nice! Stephen’s face seems to have changed abit (for the better!) He’s looking abit more grown-up.
The shot of father & son in the hammock is really nice.
hsien i LOVE all your pictures, and you look SO beautiful in the 1st pic with stephen (could hardly tell he was under the weather).
so glad you guys could take time out to enjoy the beautiful resort.
Those photos are great — you are all very photogenic!! It is getting ready to snow here, I am jealous of your beach holiday! You must be crazy busy getting ready to move now, I am glad that you got a vacation in!
ditto everyone else.
Just in case you were running out of reading material (haha) here’s a link to an Irish photo-blog site. http://www.monasette.com/blog/
I realise how much I still love children when I see pictures like the one of Stephen throwing sand. It’s just too adorable – I’m not a gooey person who leaves comments on every baby pic I see, but sometimes he looks so lovable that I want a little Stephen all of my own. Not in a stalker way – more of a broody way
awww. very nice.
and you look really pretty. =)
oh..i just read the comments above. looks like im the only one who thinks u’re pretty!
well…if you want to prove us wrong, maybe you should post stephen’s pictures of you!! muahaha
Yes I agree with the rest that you look great in the pictures. More pictures please. How about some on how relax everyone is after the break.
river2sea72: I always sort of rolled my eyes when friends took their sick kids out now I’m one of them too!
keuq: Stephen is definitely not much of a baby anymore. *sob*
pei fen: Can you believe Nha Trang is the only place we’ve been to outside of Ho Chi Minh City?! Very glad we went someplace before we moved.
Congogirl: I suppose I should enjoy the heat before we go to frigid London, but today’s smog is fit to kill.
qadira: You are too funny.
Rosie: So you volunteering to babysit when we move to London?
laurina: Thanks for the nice compliment. It’s all camera angle, baby. And I am SO not showing you the other 10 pics of me from this trip where I look simply DREADFUL.
June: Relaxed? Now? Bwahahaha.
