This is perhaps not the most flattering picture of me,
but I thought it conveyed a sense of intelligence and warmth.

It’s a crop of a picture taken on the San Francisco Bay Area subway
with my mom and Stephen when we were on our way to the airport
to return to Japan after my sister’s wedding in January 2004.

Lei has a PhD in Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University. Some of her work experience include being a research assistant, a post-doctoral fellow, an epidemiology consultant, and a science editor.

Lei is an American currently living in Vietnam with her husband and toddler son. They’ve been expats since 1998 and “have been gaining a new perspective on life while in Asia.”
