The one on the left has a pull tab and the one on the right has a push-pull top.

I don’t think I have ever seen a pull-tab can before. When I tried to open one yesterday without paying much attention, I thought the top was broken! I even used a knife to try and smash open the can. When that didn’t work, I looked at it more closely and realized it was a pull-tab can.

Pull-tab cans were replaced by cans with push-pull tops in the mid-1970’s or 80’s because the tabs separated from the cans and became litter or were wasted because they weren’t recycled along with the cans. The separated tabs were also a choking hazard for small children. (MSW Management)

What does it say that Vietnam still manufactures pull-tab cans?
