Rainy Season Has Begun

Dancing in the rain.
Around midnight last night, the 2005 Ho Chi Minh City rainy season begun with a brief rainstorm tapping on the windows. This was the first rain we’d seen since around November last year.
Our daily schedule will undoubtedly be disrupted. Half of this morning’s park outing was spent under some hideously painted shelters. The boys thought the light rain was plenty of fun. They danced under the clouds, jumped in the puddles, and took “showers” in the trickle of water dripping from the tin roof of the shelter.
For the next five to six months, there will be daily thunderstorms with rain so heavy that you can hardly see the building across the street accompanied by the crack and boom of thunder and lightning. But it’s ok, we won’t melt.
