Last night at bedtime, out of the blue, Stephen asked me to tell him stories about Stephen the Baby. So I came up with some little stories that all started with, “When Stephen was a little baby, he…,” and all ended with, “And that was Stephen the Baby.”

When Stephen was a little baby,

  • he lived in Japan.
  • he didn’t have any teeth and drank maju for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacks.
  • he sometimes fell asleep while taking a bath.
  • he didn’t like to ride in the stroller and wanted Mama to sling him.
  • he didn’t like to sleep in the bed by himself and took his nap in Mama’s lap.
  • he listened to CD’s and didn’t watch TV.
  • he didn’t like the blender but he liked the porridge that Mama made with it.
  • he giggled when Mama changed his T-shirt.
  • he said “mum mum” when he was in the bakery.
  • he liked to eat onigiri, Japanese rice balls.
  • he liked to play with balls.
  • he liked to chew on toys.
  • he was very sweet. Almost as nice as Stephen the Little Boy.

And that was Stephen the Baby.
