BlogPulse

My LiveJournal, Cotton-Pickin’ Days, is not supposed to be indexed by bots and spiders. I know that option is not completely bulletproof, but I was still surprised to find that Intelliseek’s BlogPulse has some of my entries indexed even though I never submitted my blog. BlogPulse says,
If you are a blogger…
You can ensure that your blog is represented in our index
Try our search engine to see who is talking about topics of interest to you
Find out who links to your blog actively through other bloggers’ own blog entries, and in what context
Check out our Analysis and Trends tools to see what?s current or “bursty” (meaning it bursts onto the discussion scene) in the blogging world on any given day
I’ve given out my blog URL to many friends and family so it doesn’t bother me to have some of my entries indexed. However, until LiveJournal makes it possible to track which sites are referring to my blog and what search words people are using to arrive at it, I’d rather make it a little more difficult to come visit. Keeping my blog within the relatively insular LiveJournal environment works for me.
BlogPulse is a fun site to visit, though. For each day, it gives the most prominently mentioned links and the blogs referring to that link, the most prominently featured people, and the most prominently mentioned phrases. There are also trend graphs that show when certain topics were most discussed.
In short, BlogPulse is a geeky blogger’s dream.
