Martha Stewart Living magazine is one of the most beautifully laid out magazines out there; every page simultaneously bright, cheerful, relaxing, and stunning. In fact, anything produced by the Martha Stewart team from books to flowers is gorgeous.

Her conviction last year for obstructing justice during a government investigation of her 2001 sale of ImClone stock does nothing to change the fact that under her guidance, people have aspired to a higher standard of living. As for Martha Stewart the person, my respect for her did not flag. She endured her trial and sentencing with dignity. And continued to be her icy, haughty self even as she decided to forgo her appeal and serve her sentence. What’s not to love?

Now, Martha will have her own Apprentice series modeled on the one hosted by Donald Trump. I have high hopes that she’ll be able to make hers classier and more educational. It’s going to be almost impossible to raise the standards of reality TV, however, considering the natural tendencies of participants to be nasty.

Would I go to casting call if I could? No. I wouldn’t want to embarrass Martha by publicly rejecting her job offer. (As if.)
