Marv and I have settled into a Sunday morning routine here in Vietnam. Every Sunday for the past several months, we order brunch from Au Parc, a restaurant favored by expats in the area.

Grown-Up Brunch

Virgin Mary
Apple and Carrot Juices
Smoked Sea Bass Egg Benedict On Home-Made Blini
Cheese, Bacon and Chanterelle Mushroom Omelette
Sausages
Sweet Potatoes
Spinach and Roasted Tomatoes
Assortment of Breads With Jam, Marmalade, Honey, Butter, and Swiss Cheese
Muffins
Cappucinos
Brownies With Ice Cream

and a Strawberry and Banana Smoothie for Stephen

About 30 minutes after phoning in the order, the security guard will call up and say, “Madam, your food coming.” Soon, our doorbell rings and the delivery man drops off two big rustling bags full of food. Hurrying to the dining table, we take out the large paper cups of drinks, paper bags of bread, and plastic boxes of food with hands trembling from hypoglycemia.

With Stephen’s morning show of choice playing on the TV, we chow down. Food flies back and forth across the table and into our open mouths. Stephen especially likes messing with the muffin and jam tray, dripping the spreads all over the muffin and pieces of toast, finishing by stabbing his plastic knife straight into the muffin.

We usually save the juices, muffins, and cakes for late afternoon snack. So, once we’re finished and the table cleaned up, it’s time to pop in a DVD. Last week, we watched White Chicks and this week (because Marv isn’t here), I’ll be watching Mona Lisa Smile. After the movie, it’s naptime for Stephen and computer/video game time for Marv and me.

What’s your Sunday routine?
