Insensitive

What an idiot I was to have expected fireworks when the clock struck midnight. Many countries have cancelled New Year’s festivities and even asked that private celebrations be muted or cancelled as well. What a sad start to a new year and it doesn’t look like things will be improving anytime soon.
Hundreds of thousands of people will eventually die in the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster–some directly from the impact of the tsunamis and others from communicable diseases. If only we knew how to prevent a disaster of this scale from happening in the future. If only we knew how to prevent tragedy of any kind and live happily ever after.
There’s a lot of suffering in the world but thankfully just enough joy and hope to make life worth living.
